"A true love story, never ends"

Mr & Mr                    Mr & Mrs               Mrs & Mrs

I fully believe that you do not choose who you fall in love with, love chooses you!  Whether you are in a same sex relationship or not, then I would be honoured and privileged to be your celebrant.

Covid-19

Always check for the up to date information regarding Covid-19 - please head to:    https://covid19.govt.nz/traffic-lights/
I will always adhere to the guidelines, protecting ourselves and our families.

We are currently at ORANGE, no outdoor or indoor limits

Your Vows

A vow is a solemn, unconditional promise, made in the presence of witnesses.  Vows are the foundation of your marriage or civil union and the guidelines in which you will live by.

They are the most important words that you will say to your loved one.  They will be from the heart and be filled with such passion, and will form the most sacred part of your ceremony.  Vows can be traditional or ones that you have written from the heart.  You can choose!

At some point in your vows though, you will legally need to say "I full name do take you full name to be my lawful wedded wife / husband / partner" or words to that effect.  This is a required act, set out by the offices of birth, deaths and marriages, and is a legal component within your ceremony.  I can still write in an 'I do' moment though.

Personalised Ceremony or Short and Sweet?

Everyone's needs are different.  Some like customised personalised ceremonies, where others prefer ones that I have already written and I simply put in your full names when the vows are said.  Some couples prefer longer ceremonies with readings and poems, others prefer short and sweet.

Whatever your preference, just ask.    The quickest, legal wedding I have officiated at, was 4 minutes long.  The signing of the papers took longer than the ceremony.

I always offer a first no obligation meeting for all enquiries, here we can discuss over a cup of tea or coffee your wedding and how I can help you and your fiance.

The Legal Requirements

I will be able to advise you on all the legal requirements for your marriage or civil union, whether you are from New Zealand, overseas, or in a  same sex relationship.

It is so easy to get caught up with arranging, dresses, suits, flowers and venues, that sometimes the paperwork is overlooked.  This however is an important step, as without it, your ceremony may not be able to take place.   You will need my name when applying for your marriage licence:  Dawn Parkinson

All fees for applying for a licence and certificate are payable direct with BDM.

Notice of intended marriage / civil union - valid for 3 months costs $150

Complete the marriage licence application form online at:  http://www.marriages.services.govt.nz.  If you have a REALME account, you can save the progress as you go along, alternatively you will need to ensure you have all the information you need before you begin.

Please tick the box 'Personalised Wedding Ceremony'  regardless as to the type of ceremony you have booked me for as I am an Independant Wedding Celebrant, my details pop up in the drop down box as Dawn Parkinson, independent MARTON

You can choose to have the forms sent to you via email or straight to me.  I would advise for you to get them first, in order to check every detail on the forms - spelling and dates.  This way if there are any errors, you can inform BDM.  Once correct, you can email them to me or you can print them and give to me at our next meeting, along with any outstanding celebrant fees'  The forms you will recieve are:

For a marriage:                                                               For a civil union:

BDM10 - marriage licence                                                BDM310 - civil union licence
BDM45 - copy of particulars                                             BDM345 - copy of particulars civil union
BDM45A - copy of particulars                                           BDM345A - copy of particulars civiil union

Ceremony must take place at one of the venues as stated on the marriage licence.  If there is a change of venue at the very last minute, I the Celebrant will contact the Registrar immediately after your ceremony to get the licence changed.

Marriage Certificate - $33

You can request a marriage / civil union certificate, should you wish one, this can be when you apply for your licence or you can go online and order one.  If resident overseas, you MUST have a marriage / civil union certificate.  I would advise to get one as when changing your name, some establishments may ask for proof of marriage.

Marriage certificate - BDM93M
Civil union certificate - BDM93C

My legal obligation is to ensure the correct copy is scanned and emailed to BDM within 10 days of the wedding ceremony.  If I have your email address, I will copy you in to this email so that you know I have sent the form off, I shall also forward you a copy of the automated reply to say that BDM have received it.

As a celebrant, I can take up to 30 hours to design and officiate your personalised or non personalised wedding ceremony, writing, meetings, research, rehearsal, your wedding day.

Registry Office Weddings

Internal Affairs have closed most of New Zealand's Registry Offices down, leaving a small handful open, in due course these too will close.  They do however still offer the service, but only to Validated members of the Celebrants Association of New Zealand (VCANZ).  The cost of these registry office weddings are $90 plus the marriage licence fee.

I am unable to offer the $90 registry office weddings as I am not authorised to do so, please do visit the Celebrants Association website to locate a VCANZ celebrant (Validated member of the Celebrants Association of New Zealand).  Only VCANZ members can offer the $90 registry office wedding, which have set strict guidelines with regards to ceremony script and numbers attending.

I am a member of CANZ, but have not signed up to be a validated member as this involves a large cost on my part.
